Liverpool fans bid emotional farewell to cult hero

Liverpool fans bid emotional farewell as Origi officially leaves the club

Divock Origi will officially leave Liverpool at the end of the month and is a free agent. His slew of crucial goals especially his contributions to our Champions League triumph in 2019 have made him a popular figure among supporters, but it has rarely been the case that he has held down a regular starting role under Jurgen Klopp.

Origi scored twice in the sensational 4-0 semi-final comeback win over Barcelona – completing the historic turnaround from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s unforgettable ‘corner taken quickly’ – and then sealed success in the final versus Tottenham Hotspur with an unerring late finish to make it 2-0 having come off the bench amid the heat of Madrid.

With his 18 appearances so far this season, of which only five have come as a starter, Origi has not played enough to activate a one-year extension clause within his contract, and he is now due to leave as a free agent.

It has long been reported that talks had been ongoing with AC Milan, and now The Athletic‘s James Pearce is among those to report that a move is being finalised.

Liverpool supporters on Twitter were understandably saddened to see their cult hero leave Anfield. Some have even labeled Origi as the club’s most underrated player in recent times.

Origi joined the Reds in 2014, spending the next season back on loan with Lille, and has gone on to achieve legendary status on Merseyside.
