Liverpool sign PSV World Cup star

Liverpool officially completed the transfer of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven

The transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano, has been closed at 42 million euros as an initial fee along with a possible further 14 million euros in bonus payments. It would therefore become the most expensive sale in the Eindhoven club’s history, overtaking Hirving Lozano, who left for Napoli in 2019 for 45m euros.

The 23-year-old PSV winger was one of the biggest sensations at Qatar 2022. He was instrumental in helping the Netherlands reach the quarter-finals. Gakpo scored three goals for the Oranje at the World Cup.

With PSV Gakpo was having a great season. He had a total of 13 goals and 17 assists in 24 games in all competitions. In the Eredivisie, he was the standout performer, sitting atop both the goal scoring and assist charts with nine goals and 12 assists.

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk helped convince his Netherlands team-mate Cody Gakpo to make the winter switch to Anfield, it has been revealed.

The Reds hijacked Manchester United’s pursuit of the Dutch attacker last night, with Jurgen Klopp’s side reaching an agreement with PSV Eindhoven for a sum of £44m.

Gakpo will therefore be able to face Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League. He will cover the injury absence of Luis Diaz.Gakpo scored 55 goals and provided 50 assists in 159 appearances for PSV.

He joins a devastating attack. Gakpo joins the lineup that includes Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Fabio Carvalho.
