Liverpool 3 – 1 Wolves

The quadruple bid finally ends in agonising fashion. A nervy win not enough as Manchester City retain the Premier League title

Liverpool defeated Wolves 3-1 at Anfield but their unprecedented quadruple bid is over after Manchester City beat Aston Villa to claim the Premier League title following a dramatic final day. A nervy win not enough as Man City retain Premier League title

The Reds made the worst possible start when Ibrahima Konate misjudged a long ball over the top, allowing Raul Jimenez to tee up Pedro Neto for a tap-in on three minutes.
Wolves threatened a second but then lost Neto to injury before the hosts dragged themselves level on 24 minutes.

Sadio Mane latched on to Thiago Alcantara’s sensational back heel to fire in his 23rd goal of the season and reignite belief within Anfield, which gathered momentum as news filtered through that City were trailing Aston Villa at the interval.

Liverpool struggled to find a way past an impressive visiting rearguard despite a dominant second half, but as City completed a remarkable revival, the hosts finally took the lead through substitute Mo Salah six minutes from time. It was the Egyptian’s 23rd league goal of the campaign and secured a share of his third Premier League Golden Boot, alongside Tottenham’s Son Heung-min.

Andy Robertson then put the seal on victory for the Reds but it was to no avail as City also triumphed to leave the Red’s in second place, one point off top spot as the 2021-22 league season came to a close.

Liverpool hope to have Fabinho and Virgil van Dijk fit and ready for that final in Paris, but Thiago’s half-time substitution with a hamstring issue could yet be a real blow.

The similarities were clear and the ending was just the same. As in the 2018-19 season, Liverpool had taken Manchester City to the final day, sitting one point behind their title rivals, and did all they could against Wolverhampton Wanderers

A disappointing blow for the Reds, missing out on the title again by 1 point. Liverpool finishes with 92 points but it’s not enough for the crown with Man City’s 93 points tally. Congratulation’s Manchester City.

Liverpool now can focus on the UCL win for our third trophy of the season on Saturday when they face Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris.

Regardless of coming second, the lad’s have done us proud. The season is still not over, lets round it off with another Champions league final win

Farewell Divock thank you for all the memories. All the best in your future career.

What do you think?
