A disastrous year so far for the Reds. Zero wins in the Premier League which included a 3-1 loss to Brentford and 3-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion. The only victory for the Reds came at Molineux in the 1-0 win FA Cup third round replay against Wolves.
Liverpool returned to Molineux in this Premier league fixture. This time around the Reds suffered another hefty loss, losing 3-0 away to Wolves.
Klopp made just two changes to the side that was knocked out of the fourth round of the FA Cup against Brighton & Hove Albion — bringing in Joel Matip to partner Joe Gomez at centre-back, with Ibrahima Konate out injured and a full return for Darwin Nunez who replaced Harvey Elliott in the starting eleven.
Wolves had only scored 12 goals in 20 EPL matches this season, but against Liverpool. They found their form, scoring 3 times while sending the Reds to another shocking defeat 3-0
Yet another slow start by Liverpool’s starting eleven. inside the first five minutes, Joel Matip scoring an own gola to make it 1-0 to Wolves.
It wouldn’t take long for the hosts to double their advantage as new-signing Craig Dawson profited from poor set-piece defending from Liverpool to smash home a second for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
There were glimmers of what this Liverpool team is capable of through Darwin Nunez as the Uruguayan striker had more chances, however he continued his personal story of the season in seemingly not being able to find the back of the net regularly enough.
It was Naby Keita’s turn next to be left with his face in his hands after he couldn’t believe he didn’t score from the centre of the box. Compact defending from the home side kept the Guinean from scoring.
The game was finally won by Ruben Neves after he was teed up by Adama Traore. Jeers of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” from the Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters aimed at a disheartened Jurgen Klopp rang around Molineux. This marked the first Wolves win vs Liverpool in League play since 2010 and the first time they have scored 3 goals in a match all season.
It’s the third time in Liverpool’s last four Premier League matches that the Reds have conceded three goals. Also three defeats in the last four.
Liverpool look disjointed, lethargic and lost. The mentality giants of old have seemingly shrunk.
