A Darwin Nunez first half headed goal for Liverpool and Jarrod Bowen’s penalty miss helped Jurgen Klopp’s side back-up Sunday’s win over Manchester City with another three Premier League points in their 1-0 victory over West Ham.
Darwin Nunez’s first Liverpool goal at Anfield sealed a nervy 1-0 victory over West Ham United in the Premier League on Wednesday. Nunez could have scored a couple more goals. A speculative and dipping left-footed volley was well kept out by Lukasz Fabianski.
West Ham’s best chance for an equalizer came after Liverpool defender Joe Gomez clumsily bundled into the back of Jarrod Bowen, conceding a penalty that was awarded by the referee after a pitchside review.
Bowen got up to take the spot kick himself and it was palmed aside by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Victory lifted Liverpool into seventh place with 16 points from 10 games. West Ham’s first defeat in four league games left them in 13th place with 11 points.
Despite a third consecutive victory, Liverpool still seem prone to an error in their defensive third. Joe Gomez’s silly challenge in the first half presented West Ham the chance to equalise from the penalty spot – although Alisson Becker decisively saved Jarrod Bowen’s spot-kick.
